Samastipur. Agricultural mechanization scheme has brought a new hope for the farmers of Samastipur district. Under this scheme, farmers can now buy small agricultural implements like trowel, hoe, sickle as well as other big implements at subsidized rates. A total of 91 types of instruments are included in this scheme, on which the government is giving subsidy ranging from 40 to 80 percent. Especially up to 80% subsidy is available on equipment related to crop residue management. So far 1799 farmers have applied, out of which 1123 applications have been approved. The total sanctioned amount of the scheme is Rs 6 crore 52 lakh 42 thousand, which will prove helpful in accelerating mechanization in the district.

Facility will be provided through online application and transparency
To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers will have to apply online on the OFMS portal of Bihar government. According to District Agriculture Officer Dr. Sumit Saurabh, to purchase equipment worth more than Rs 20 thousand, farmers will have to upload documents related to land ownership such as LPC or rent receipts of the last three years. However, general application is sufficient for equipment up to Rs 20,000, except pumpset. This time, to bring transparency in the scheme, the beneficiaries will be selected through online lottery system, which will eliminate the role of middlemen and the right farmers will get direct benefits.

Opportunity for every farmer, non-ryots will also benefit
Another special thing about this scheme is that non-raiyat farmers can also take advantage of it. Especially, subsidy up to 80% on manual equipment kits is also available for such farmers. For example, farmers will get equipment worth Rs 1,000 for only Rs 200 after the subsidy. Things used in daily farming like trowel, spade, weeder, sickle will now be available at cheaper rates, which will make the work of small and marginal farmers easier. This initiative of the government will not only reduce the costs of farmers but will also increase the production capacity.
